About the Artist
I grew up in a small town in Texas where my parents encouraged me to participate in various performing and visual arts with lessons and performances or recitals.
I majored in all level art education at Baylor University, taught middle school art and served as the middle school and elementary art coordinator for several years, later returning to college and received a masters’ degree in reading.
My full time pursuit as an artist began when our son deployed to Afghanistan and Iraq as a United States Marine. Painting gave me an inner calm to manage the days during his deployments. And during those same years I had the privilege to paint the Christmas card covers for then Texas Governor Rick Perry and First Lady Anita Perry.
I have illustrated and edited two children’s books, Ocean Surprises and Tales of Perini Ranch
Currently I am painting with oil paint and a palette knife instead of a brush. Using a palette knife helps me loosely apply the paint for an interpretive representation of my subject. I rarely draw any beginning guidelines but allow the paint to guide me.
A spontaneity of just beginning on the canvas with an instinctive paint application is my freshest approach to achieve a freedom in the outcome of the painting.
Hopefully, my art reflects the reverent joy I have experienced while painting. My goal is to create a timeless painting that will adapt to any setting or decor.
